Novell Tullett is a small practice with a big mentality. We are a creative, enthusiastic and close-knit team who love to get stuck into a challenging project. In fact the more complex the better. We each have our strengths and are united by the desire to find intelligent and sustainable solutions for each site.
We are a close-knit team with a range of complementary specialisms. We work from a converted barn which is part of the home farm of historic Barrow Court in Barrow Gurney, a couple of miles from Bristol city centre. We enjoy all the advantages of our rural location with a log fire in winter and fresh salad grown in our sunny courtyard in summer.
Jane Fowles - Director
Jane has led Novell Tullett since 2007 and has shaped its reputation for imaginative design and quality landscapes. Jane studied landscape architecture at the University of Greenwich and later trained in urban design. She is a champion of the value of landscape architecture, chairing design reviews, giving talks to the industry and mentoring graduates through their professional exams.
Jane spends much of her time meeting clients, getting projects off the ground, and guiding project development. She spent her early career with LUC, working on a diverse portfolio of projects including mixed-use developments, large residential schemes and river restoration. She has particular expertise in complex site analysis which allows her to give excellent planning advice and considered argument at appeal.
She often favours the hand-drawn over the digital for its subtlety and emotional connection with the viewer.
Simon Lindsley - Associate
Simon has been working alongside Jane for many years and brings great experience at delivering large projects on site. With a background at Derek Lovejoy Partnership and Broadway Malyan, he has a specialist technical knowledge which helps him to transform concept design into elegant working solutions.
He studied environmental science at university, and went on to qualify as both an urban designer and landscape architect. Among the mixed-use projects he has delivered for NT, are Cabot Circus, Quakers Friars, Saw Close in Bath and Keynsham Town Hall. He also specialises in landscape character studies, LVIA, EIA and Neighbourhood plans.
Simon oversees the office technical capability and is our BIM co-ordinator.
Jasmin Tse - Assistant
Jasmin has a BA in Landscape Architecture from the Technological and Higher Educational Institute of Hong Kong. And following this she moved to the UK where she undertook a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Gloucestershire, completed in 2022.
Before coming to the UK, Jasmin used her landscape skills successfully in the design of the Hong Kong wetland park where her aim was to enable greater connections between landscape and people. Now she enjoys the challenges of experimenting with design styles while achieving strong technical solutions in every project. Jasmin’s dream in her career is to achieve a much higher integration of landscape within urban space, through the creation of urban oases that combine aesthetics, climate regulation and ecosystem services.
Qiwen Chen - Assistant
Qiwen studied landscape architecture at Xiamen University Tan Kah Kee college from 2015 to 2020. She also has a MA in the design and presentation of art museums and galleries from the University of Leicester which helped her gain greater adaptability to design and a facility in broader aesthetics.
She has a keen interest in graphic design and enjoys creating conceptual illustrations for diverse projects. Qiwen is very ambitious for the role that landscape design can play in the way that we live. She believes that there is scope for innovative solutions to forge more sympathetic links between landscape, nature and human beings. A way to tread more lightly on the planet.
