Village House | Somerset

Testing landscape sensitivity in a rural plot

Finding space for a new house in a village with a protected historic core is challenging but not impossible. We made a detailed examination of the village character, layout and materiality to guide the architect’s approach. We were also able to test the visibility of the proposed site from all the high points, beauty spots and footpaths which revealed that a carefully designed house, taking inspiration from its setting, would be all but invisible. This information gave our client confidence in taking their planning application forward.
