A strong and fresh scheme appealing to the student users
Working with Architects Stubbs Rich, Novell Tullett prepared the landscape masterplan for the campus redevelopment of a 6th form college and further education college for Technology, Art & Design in Hereford.
The expansion of the college necessitated the incorporation of new buildings on the site. A three-metre fall in level resulted from the siting of the new buildings between the upper and lower ‘learning streets’ focused on a central quad. All areas were designed with disabled access. Novell Tullett’s response to the level change was to include large scale Corten and gabion retaining structures, with ridge and furrow earthworks as part of the design for the semi-formal quad spaces. These details responded to the toughness required of a highly trafficked student environment, whilst providing a strong and fresh scheme appealing to the student users.
