Cabot Circus | Bristol

A mixed use, retail-led city quarter, with new streets, squares, realigned highway and residential home zone.

The scheme is on multiple levels which link to existing streets, collecting at the new square in the heart of the development.  Welsh, pennant paving stone, to match that found locally in Bristol, forms a simple ground plane throughout the scheme. This is sustainable and relevant to the city’s character and quality.

Novell Tullett’s local knowledge of the site and prior relationship with the council and design team led to our appointment with the Bristol Alliance.  The success of the scheme design led to the practice being appointed to design the refurbishment of adjoining Broadmead (the ‘Greenline’).  The scheme was reviewed by CABE who said that the landscape proposals were “subtle and sophisticated”.

The team’s aspiration for a clutter-free highway was achieved at the northern fringe of the scheme.
