Arthur’s Garden | Canada

A simple English garden style reflected understated elegance

A private garden in Nova Scotia Canada comprising a series of spaces and connected by walks through wooded valleys.

The scheme included a rose garden and herbaceous gardens within an established woodland setting. The walled pool garden, with changing rooms and stone-terraced pool margins was conceived within a simple English garden style, which reflected the client’s brief for understated elegance. The timber framed pool buildings with shingled roofs complement the vernacular style of the spaces.

This was the first of a series of swimming pools that we designed for this long-standing, private client. Others included the infinity pool which looks out to the Bay of Fundy shown below left.

We also remodelled the family’s burial ground set within an arboretum in Buctouche; the approach to Irving Oil’s headquarters building through the heart of New Brunswick’s city park and cemetery (for which we won aLandscape Institute’s award) and the Harriette Irving Botanical Gardens at Acadia University.
